PBIS: Glenolden P.R.I.D.E.

Our Mission: “Glenolden School provides a positive learning environment, promoting
determination among all students to achieve excellence academically, socially, and
emotionally in our home and school communities.”

What Is "P.B.I.S."?

P.B.I.S. stands for "Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports." There are many
acronyms and terms people use, including "PBS" and "SWPBIS" to name a few. The system
is based on research of behavioral and instructional principles. Each PBIS system is
tailored to the strengths and needs of your school. It is a proactive and preventative
system that emphasizes positive interactions and a wide variety of supports. The ultimate
goal of any PBIS system is the academic achievement and "whole child" education of
students.
P.B.I.S. is NOT a packaged curriculum or program. It is NOT a "quick fix" or a
"trendy" program; it has been around for many years and takes years to implement in
schools. It is NOT just about tangible rewards or discipline. It is NOT just for students,
either!
P.B.I.S. is built by the whole staff but led by a core team. It relies on common
language, a common vision, and common experiences (consistency). Decisions are data-
driven and student-centered. Positive outcomes are created when systems that support
staff behavior, practices that support student behavior, and solid data that drive
student-centered decision-making are aligned. P.B.I.S. is often paired with academic
support systems like RTII and MTSS, as well as with identifying at-risk students through
Student Assistance Program ("SAP"). All of these systems can work together to identify, support, and respond to students
that need social, behavioral, or academic assistance.

What is our motto?

"P.R.I.D.E." is the Glenolden School motto. We demonstrate excellence and BUC
PRIDE! This is the heart of our common language, which promotes consistency. The
branding creates excitement and pride in our school.

What is our reward and acknowledgment system?

Like any multi-tiered system, our reward system also has multiple levels of rewards
and acknowledgments. Individual Students may be rewarded with:

High-Frequency: "BUC PRIDE Ticket" (“BPT”)

• Students should be given a BUC PRIDE Ticket if they demonstrate
  P.R.I.D.E. behaviors. 
  
• BPTs will be collected and used in the school-wide weekly raffles. All
  elementary BPTs will go into one raffle jar, and all middle school
  tickets are entered into “The ’36 Raffle”. Then, all tickets are entered into the Grand Prize Raffle,
  where the winning ticket is rewarded with a gift card. The staff
  member who issues the winning ticket will also receive a gift card.
  
  
  
  
• We also target certain skills, behaviors, and initiatives with the “Gold
  BPT Challenge” tickets. These are for behaviors that meet certain
  criteria during the week. We do a raffle each Monday for the Gold
  BPTs and introduce the new challenge for the week.
  
  
  

Medium Frequency: “Wall of PRIDE”

• The Wall of PRIDE is a kind of "Growth Wall". A growth wall is a way to display the celebrations and
  acknowledgments of students who go "above and beyond" normal
  expectations or act as a role model to demonstrate and PRIDE at
  Glenolden School.
  
  
  
• The Wall of PRIDE this year celebrates marked growth and
  excellence each week. Teachers fill out a Google Form for a student
  shout-out and that form is converted to an entry on our online Wall
  of PRIDE on a “Padlet.”
  
  
  
• We then enter the names of the students in the Wheel of Names to
  have a raffle for a SWAG BAG: a gift bag filled with school SWAG
  and prizes.
  
  
• We also enter the names of the staff members who submitted forms
  into a Wheel of Names drawing for a prize such as the RESERVED
  PARKING SPOT!!!
  
  

Low-Frequency: "Student of the Month"

• Each month each homeroom teacher will select a student that has
  spent the previous month demonstrating PRIDE behaviors and/or the
  monthly virtue.
  
  
• Support staff, special areas teachers, and special
  education teachers should give their input to homeroom teachers to
  aid in the selection or be given the opportunity to have their own
  SOTM.
  
  
  
• These students will be acknowledged and celebrated on the
  morning announcements. Classroom teachers may choose to give the
  student of the month additional rewards or privileges. Students of
  the month will also win a prize or privilege from the main office and a
  certificate.
